When navigating the world of small-business owning or entrepreneurship, figuring out what important first step to take can be daunting. Even if you’ve owned your business for years, sometimes it’s hard to know how to take the next steps for success.

Scheduling a professional headshot session is easily the first step in taking any business, whether new or existing, to the next level. At the very basic level, the fact that your business or brand is represented by a professional headshot, even if it’s just on your LinkedIn page, creates a feeling of legitimacy and a sense of trust.

Headshots often get a bad rap, mostly because people tend to think of the stiff, arms crossed in front of a white background variety that haunts corporate execs the world over. In reality, environmental headshots that allow your personality to shine through are just as, if not more, impactful. Potential clients want to work with someone who has a personality that they can relate to, a face that they fell like they can connect with.

Generally speaking, updating your headshot once a year is a good rule of thumb, especially if you make any major changes to your appearance. It’s an indicator that you value staying current with your online presence. In this day of digital marketing, a current headshot should be immediately visible on your website, your LinkedIn page, and any social media pages that you have.
