Content Calendars & Why They Work

Content calendars are absolute gamechangers when it comes to delivering the best content to all your followers. They help you prepare your goals and clearly plan out what posts you’re aiming to share with your dream clients—and most importantly, they help you organize the best times to share everything.

If using a content calendar isn’t already part of your overall social media strategy, well… we’re here to tell you that it should be. Laying out all of your ideas is not only weirdly therapeutic, but it also allows you to strategize ways for you to grow your brand and business. 

Think about all the blog snippets, stories, reels, graphics, and images that you can organize in a purposeful way to grow your business—the possibilities are boundless.

Depending on the type of content you’re currently sharing (and the content you’re planning to share in the future), you may want an incredibly detailed tool, or you may want something more simple. It’s really up to you and how you’ll be most productive when it comes to putting out fresh content. 

Ask yourself which platforms you use to share content and how you can best keep track of everything. It’s also incredibly important to plan for the overall cost. Some content calendar tools are more expensive than others, and you want to pick one that you’ll genuinely use. Do a little bit of research and get the best bang for your buck!

SOME RECOMMENDATIONS FROM OUR TEAM

Content calendars and social media scheduling tools are extremely prevalent these days, and with good reason. Using one will make your life exponentially easier. But it can definitely feel overwhelming to look at all your options. We put together a short list of 3 recommendations and a little tidbit about each.

  1. Planoly

We’re admittedly biased on this one because we currently use Planoly for our own social media purposes. It’s particularly great for mapping out Instagram posts, planning captions, and even including strategic hashtags on individual posts. You can tag other users, too—so there’s a lot of work you can achieve with just a few clicks in the tool itself. 

Planoly isn’t just limited to Instagram, though. You can plan out content for other platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok and Twitter, too! It also has a really accessible app that’s great for when you’re on the go or just not by your computer at the moment but you want to plan some content.

A starter plan with Planoly starts at $11.25/month. Definitely check out all the options, and consider your needs before picking a plan.

  1. SproutSocial

SproutSocial is another excellent platform when it comes to visually organizing your content across social networks. Like Planoly, you can plan posts for your various social media accounts, which is perfect for linking announcements or marketing campaigns across platforms. 

Sprout also suggests the best times for you to publish content—which is a tremendous help when trying to foster engagement from your followers. Finally, Sprout allows you to add comments to post and track/record how well your content is performing. Analyzing your content and overall social media performance is a necessary way to stay relevant in the long run!

The standard SproutSocial plan starts at $89/month for 5 social profiles—perfect for a smaller company managing just a handful of social media accounts.

  1. Trello

Trello is a wonderful tracking platform that makes it so people can list their tasks, provide due dates, and include special details about an overall project—for example, who’s collaborating on it, any links that need to be shared/accessed, and the like. 

This tool uses task cards to organize projects, so it’s an awesome option for your business if you work with multiple people who have distinct yet sometimes overlapping tasks and you want to see everything laid out at once.

A standard plan for Trello starts at just $5/month, but there are other options to explore, too!
